More Blog Happiness and Why Pedro is a Punk
I've decided to add on to Canadia Mania by creating a separate blog dedicated to my sports ramblings. I don't know how often I'll post here but what the heck. My reasoning was that I post fairly often on CM and some of my posts can get a bit long. Adding my commentary about the Sox, or whatever it is I feel like talking about will only make those posts longer. Plus the purpose of CM is to chronical my adventures in a strange, foreign land. This is quite off that topic.
That said, I may from time to time add a blurb about sports stuff in CM depending on its relevance. But most of it will be here. Depending on how this goes, maybe I'll add one for politics too. ;-)
Now, on with the show...
The Sox lost today and not very pretty. Boomer has had 2 rough outings back to back. It's still very early yet there should be a little concern there. Tomorrow Matt Clement gets the ball. He looks to be a good acquisition. Not an ace, but a strong pitcher.
I should also note for those of you who are unaware, besides the Red Sox being right up there with breathing in life, I used to follow the Mets semi-actively. Which means for every 20 Sox games I watched, I probably caught one or two Mets' games. I like to stay up on what's going on in the National League as well. However, last year I kinda got into following the Houston Astros. Roger Clemens is still my favorite pitcher of all-time, so I caught a few games, and they've got a pretty good thing going on in Houston. This year, the Mets had some buzz about them in the offseason so I tried to watch them on 2 occasions to date since Opening Day and I can't say I really have any interest in them. So, I guess I'm going to rely on the Astros to provide me with my National League fix.
There are 2 things about the Mets that I can't stand: Willie Randolph and Pedro Martinez. This is Willie's first year managing the team. And he was held in high regard as a coach for the Yankees, but he just comes off like an ass. Yeah he knows a thing or two about the game but he's just a big, giant douche bag. He's one of those guys that seems to know everything about everything (in his mind), talks a tough game, but his team has jumped to 0-4 and they look horrible. Pitching is weak and they just don't look, act or play like a team. Maybe they'll come together, but I for one would have more interest in watching the Mets if he a) left the team or b) shut his mouth, dropped the tough guy act and led the team.
Now for Pedro. When Pedro first came to Boston from the Expos I was excited just as everyone else was. And ya know what, he brought some damned good talent to the team. However, the last couple of years, his mouth and actions had become unbearable. What did it for me was before the 2003 season, he went to the press to let everyone know that if the Sox didn't exercise his option right then and there, he would not stay on the extra year. They had until November to do that. His thing was about "respect". I'm sorry asshole but you signed the contract, you should have more respect for your employers, teammates and yourself before going on a tirade like that. Same thing for him leaving. All about respect. Jeez, if the money they offered with him wasn't respectful, then I don't know what is. What a tool. Hopefully the Mets stay shitty. He'll get what he deserves.
You all should also know that I am part of 3 Fantasy Baseball leagues. One is a pay league for some good money. As a result, I'm definitely going to be more intune to what's going on that I usually am, as a result, I'll have more opinions to share, hence this blog.
